AREVA demand a great deal of their industrial partners and rely on suppliers who guarantee knowhow, innovativeness as well as reliability and quality.
“We are connected to AREVA by several decades of cooperation”, Sales Director Bernd Wöhlken reports.
“In 2005 we received an order for four Positive Displacement Blowers and for a stand-by stage scheduled for a new third nuclear reactor in the Finnish Nuclear Power Plant Olkiluoto – the world’s largest with an output of 1.600 megawatt.” The machines were supplied in September 2009. Three of the Positive Displacement Blowers GRa 18.f16x are used for the cooling water treatment and the fourth is used for the waste water treatment. Other Aerzen machines had also been integrated into the existing two nuclear reactors before.
“There are only a few companies who produce this type of machines and who can comply with the requirements of the Nuclear Industry”, knows Friedhelm Homuth, Head of Quotation and Processing Department Process Gas. “Aerzener Maschinenfabrik received the permission to supply nuclear plants years ago (Nuclear Safety Standards Commission). The Nuclear Safety Standards Commission requires extensive safety, test and certification measures. To comply with the certified safety requirements for this order all components – from the housing part to the spacing collar – were extensively tested and approved by the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK).

Award ceremony

A multiplicity of suppliers was involved in this big project. AREVA awarded 141 companies out of 8.000 German companies in total to be a TOP supplier. The rating included the complete operating performance from the projection and customer advisory service to the order processing.
The representatives of the selected companies were invited to come to Berlin on 1st July 2009 to take this prize during a ceremony. The award ceremony was conducted by Anne Lauvergeon, chairwoman of the board of AREVA and as per Forbes List one of the most powerful women on earth. As a Nuclear Conference took place at the same time in Berlin, high political representatives were also present.

Follow-up Orders

Aerzen machines will also be utilized in two reactor blocks in China. These nuclear power plants will also be built under the direction of AREVA and they appointed Aerzener Maschinenfabrik to their general supplier. “In addition, we will greatly benefit from our subsidiary on site on these projects“, Wöhlken knows.
